Aglarost History

There was once a soldier who was cast out from his home nation and decided to create his own society. He found a monolithic volcano, he hiked his way to the top and peered down into the volcano. He saw a massive amount of lava inside of it, he thought he would forge a mystical sword and carve his city into the volcano itself. He went down into the volcano and saw that the lava was under a layer of rock with a small spring above. He forged the sword form this small pool and started to create his city, he began to cleave his legacy into the rock. He made his city into three tiers, the lowest being the Darklands. The Darklands housed some of the most hostile and fearsome creatures he had ever seen. He created his city above this layer with a huge door with which to keep them out. The city was built on the second level of the volcano, above the lava but close enough to forge in it. Above that is Valdar, the highest part of the volcano. It is as dangerous as the Darklands but the creatures there are docile unless provoked. He went to open the door one day to explore and fpund an interesting creature. The creature was feeding on a strange plant which seemed to give the creature unimaginable strength. He proceeded to capture the creature and soon enough it warmed up to him. He let the creature out of its cage and it led him to its brethren. He happened upon a dead body of a spo'oph. He heard one of the creatures scream and saw a worm-like creature he named the Noms. He saved the creatures from the Noms and they lived in symbiosis from that point on. He named the creatures Spo'ophs. His was named Chow, the greatest of all Spo'ophs. He proceeded to have other citizens enter his city. The city began to flourish, he named it Aglarost meaning glorious city. He explored the Darklands from the rest of his days and found the Guardian to his sword. It was a giant black dragon which he tamed enough to guard his sword. He named the dragon Amatsu. He then went to the deepest part of the Darklands and there he never returned. The city now strives to be the best and most advanced civilization ever created.

8. Journal Entries

Monday, first day of Collection. Menel. Second age.

Long, grueling day. The crops are in an overgrow right now. Outside the plants are abundant and all of us must collect. And the more plants that are grown, the higher the quota that must be met. And the gyres are the hardest to collect. So myself and my sons were outside for most of the morning collecting. Today is Battleschool for my sons, and Forge for myself. Temple and Academy are in the days following and they need to be ready. Choosing, where my sons will find their true calling, is after the final day of Collection. The tests are rigorous and I worry for them. I don't want them in Battleschool and an Acolyte is out of the question... I want them in Forge so I can watch over them. But it's not my choice.

Saturday, The Choosing. Temple of Istalri. Second Age.

The Hierarch is anxious about Choosing. The children have all been through the rights, and they've been tested by the Inheritor, Sadron and the Blades, The Headmaster of the Academy, and the Benefactor. All that's left is the Zealot to see who's worthy of Temple. I remember my Initiation... It was the scariest moment of my life. The few of us that hadn't been picked by the rest of the Noldocora all in a line waiting outside of Istalri. The Hierarch walks in front of the line waiting for the ones worthy of the Branding. I remember the screams from the ones too scared for the Trials. But I was determined to finish. Now magma courses through my veins and fire burns in my eyes. And I get to watch and Brand the ones who's spot I was once in.

Friday, fifth day of Momentum. Third level of  Darklands. Second Age.

I hear voices in the dark. I'm too far down to hear the life from Menel and I can hear the darklings in the distance. I have to get out. Sadron is ruthless. And with an iron fist the Blades led me down here. There's nothing. Just dark. I'm farther down than the spo'ophs and I feel like Amatsu is breathing down my neck. All I was left with was a torch and a seraph blade. And no way out that I can see... I have to get out. Slowly. Painfully. I can feel myself disappearing from reality. Aglarost seems so far away from me. Nothing is worth this. Nothing is worth the dar. I want to get back. I'll take a fire baptism and 10 rounds in the colosseum against the Inheritor himself than this. The creatures are coming. And I don't see a way out...

4. Utopian Animal

The native animal to Aglarost is known as a spo'oph. It is the work horse of our society . We use it for many different tasks including farming, hunting, cleaning, transportation, and gaming, and they're also just household pets. Our founder discovered these while searching the depths of the volcano. He captured one and tamed it. The spo'ophs are quite intelligent. In fact the spo'oph that Jakiro captured was able to lead him back to the depths of the volcano and show him his people. Even though he could not communicate with the spo'ophs, he was able to see what happened to them. They were the food source for most of the creatures in the darklands. That's why they lived near the mouth of the darklands. But their main predator was a creature called the Nom. He was a great beast that hunted the spo'ophs to near extinction. So Jakiro decided to kill the Nom that was harassing the spo'oph herd. He was able to kill the Nom using Zulfiquar. Once he did this he took his spo'oph which he called Chow, back to the Menel. Seeing how happy Chow was with Jakiro, the other spo'ophs decided to go to with Jakiro to live in peace and prosperity with him.

The spo'ophs are held in high esteem in the society. Even though they are the work horse they are treated very well. If you harm or abuse your spo'oph, you will get your spo'oph taken away for one year, and that one year wait will start once you go through Ascension. And the Ascension will be surviving the journey from second lowest level of the dark lands to Valdar. And the Acolytes will judge if you are worthy of rejoining the society, and if you will ever get your spo'oph back.

Overall the Spo'ophs are around 4'6, but what they lack in height they make up for in strength. We mainly use them for farming but as mentioned before they are used for hunting. They mainly retrieve the animals, and very rarely actually hunt. They also clean, and are used as a main source of transportation. Also every Friday you can enter your Spo'oph in the races and if your spo'oph wins you get a special prize.

7. Letter of Invitation

Dear Mickey,

How are you? Still frustrated with your life in New York? If you are, you might consider joining me here in Aglarost. I'm really enjoying life here, much more than I did in Chicago. The guire provides a consistent source of food for us and it provides all the nutrition we need. No more pills! People don't get sick often. Everyone pulls their weight, and the volcanic soil is good for growing crops. There's only one religion here, so that simplifies a lot of things and eliminates many conflicts. The spo'ophs are wonderful for commuting and for helping with everyday tasks. Any conflicts are dealt with through the central governors, the Cora. Sadron specifically deals with law enforcement and crimes. Criminals are dealt with very harshly here, so there is a very low crime rate. Education is simple, with children being sent the fields to farm for the first few years, and then they are tested for either the battleschool, the Agricultural Guild, the Forge, the Academy of Greater Knowledge or Temple. They train and enter the workforce just like back home, but they're totally devoted to their work and they want to do well. Everything here in Aglarost is simpler than in regular cities, and I think you might really enjoy it here.

Hoping to see you soon,

Erulastiel

5. Laws

The Edicts of Wisdom.

1. No citizen shall break the tranquility of our city.
2. Every citizen must fulfill their duties in both farming and forgery.
3. The door to the Darklands will remain closed, unless in dire need to retrieve Zulfiqar.
4. Only in times of highest emergency or outside the walls of the city can the Zealot use his affinity with flame as a weapon.
5. The Spo'oph is our sacred animal. There will be no abuse in the use of a Spo'oph.
6. Citizens will obey all rules and laws set forth by the Noldocora.
7. The Noldocora will not abuse the power they are given.
8. Daily forgery is the main supplier of our Armory, and so it should be treated as critically important.
9. All soldiers will exercise new battle plans and strategies deemed worthy by the Inheritor.
10. The Zealot may only practice his powers while alone in his private quarters.

The punishments for these crimes are dealt with swiftly and uncompromisable. There are five tiers of punishments 1 being a minor punishment and 5 being the worst. The punishments are as follows, incarceration, hard labor, Coliseum, Fire Baptism, and the worst of all being thrown to the Mid-Level of the Darklands.

2. Declaration of Independence

As set forth by the Noldocora, our governing body:

We retain our faith in central government, but substitute our own system of functionality. In doing so, we create a free community of men dedicated to the preservation of life and simple living and with this dedication we protect ourselves from the ruthlessness and damaging conditions of common society. We remove ourselves and our people from the violence, bias, propaganda, and general conflict of the outer world.

As a society we will defend and support each other. All will be respected and treated as equals, regardless of gender, race, or any other differentiating qualities as Jakiro showed us at the beginning of our society. We set down these philosophies at the time of our beginning that we may follow them and use them to guide the creation of our laws and edicts and to help us live our lives in harmony with our world and those who share it.

6. Government

There is a governing elite in Aglarost. There is no clear cut, single ruler among us. We are an aristocracy: The Noldocora. Each governing member has his/her own "sect" so to speak. We each rule over different parts of the city. We were chosen to rule due to our individual talents, each coming together as one. Sadron was chosen  for his ruthlessness in battle, Caliminaion was chosen for his sheer strength, Erulastiel was chosen for her meticulousness, Raebund for his affinity to flame, and Aranel for her unsurpassed intelligence. Sadron (Damon) is the Law enforcement. He enforces our rules and regulations and punishes those that don't obey. Caliminaion (Robert) is The Inheritor. He commands our army and keeps them in shape in case of any attack. Erulastiel (Sarah) controls resources. Things like water, food, trade, mining, and other things essential to the success of our city. Raebund (Cameron) lives in The Temple of Istalri. The Zealot hierarch who leads the religion and beliefs of the city. Him and his followers believe that the volcano is a strong, dangerous being and cannot be angered. Finally, Aranel (Sam) forwards the technological and artistic advances. She develops the technology needed to farm, hunt, and to entertain.

1. Aglarost

We are in the process of creating our own utopian society named Aglarost.

Aglarost- a connetion of two elvish words. Aglar, meaning glorious and Ost, meaning city. This has been chosen by the creaters of our city, because it's the most adequite description.
